Player Story

A wicketkeeper and technically sound batter, Ollie Pope was thrust into a Test debut as a 20-year-old in 2018.  His maiden match for England came after only 15, albeit impressive, first-class games for Surrey and while he lost his spot in the XI after two matches he would soon become a mainstay of the England top order.  A first Test ton came against South Africa just days after his 22nd birthday. After some middling results in the middle order (an average of 29.64), Pope was dropped during the disastrous 2021-22 Ashes series to Australia. Pope scored 205, the first double century of his career, against Ireland in the lead-in to the 2023 Ashes series, a campaign where he would feature only twice after injuring his shoulder in the field. An accomplished gloveman, Pope has rarely kept wicket for England. The Adelaide Strikers snapped up Pope for the BBL|14 season, locking in the busy batter as one of their international imports.  Pope was elevated to England Test vice-captain and led his nation in Ben Stokes' absence in 2024 and 2025, but lost his title for the away Ashes series in 2024-25 after he was leapfrogged by Harry Brook.
