Player Story
Jordan Cox's story has been one of nearly and not quite so far with several opportunities derailed by poorly-timed injuries. He had been expected to make his Test debut in New Zealand in 2024 but broke a thumb while batting in the nets. Then included for England's one-off Tests v Zimbabwe in mid-2025, a side injury picked up batting with county side Essex forced him to withdraw. But he was on the right side of misfortune in June 2026, named for this long-awaited Test debut at No.7 amid the fallout as captain Ben Stokes was dropped for the second Test v New Zealand at The Oval following a late-night incident at a nightclub. Cox, who holds an Australian passport and was a regular on the grade cricket circuit in Sydney, leveraged that into a late call-up for his Big Bash debut as an import for the Hobart Hurricanes in December 2021, showing his fielding prowess with a direct hit from the deep. He returned with the Melbourne Renegades two summers later, again as a replacement import, this time standing in as wicketkeeper for four games.
